Week Commencing 07.01.2019

Year one have had a very productive and fun first full week back after Christmas! Learning and a Panto!

This week we have completed a block of Computing - programming toys where we have been learning about what algorithms and codes are, and the importance of sequencing the steps correctly.  The class did find it rather amusing when the algorithms where incorrectly ordered and processes went wrong!  As the week progressed Bee bots (programmable toy bees) were used to input an algorithm to make the Bee Bot move to different places using forward, backwards, left and right arrows.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the computing block and are already looking forward to the next!

Maths - we have begun our new maths unit.  This week's focus was addition to 10, thinking about number bonds to 10 and how bonds to 10 can help when counting mentally to bridge the gap eg 6+7 =   6 + 4 = 10    10 + 3 =    because the first 7 was split into 4 and 3 to make a 10 and count on the extra.

English - we have begun looking at the story Meerkat Mail, looking at letters and different forms of writing for communication.

Phonics  - we have looked at spelling patterns adding the suffix -er and - est.  We have also looked at the new sound  ow - row, row, row your boat slow, and also looking at the igh phoneme how different spellings of the i-e, ie, i, y make the same sounds.

PE - just a little reminder that Thursdays's PE is outdoors please remember something warm, spare socks and plastic bag to store trainers in as they may get rather muddy!

On Wednesday afternoon the Whole school watched a fun filled Pantomime in the hall.  There was laughter, singing, cheer and dancing which I am sure children have told you already.

Have a great week everyone.
