A busy week...
Once again a very busy week here in Year 1! We have been having lots of fun with our learning this week and hopefully they have told you about some of this at home.
Maths this week has been focused on subtracting numbers, we have looked at subtracting numbers up to 20. The children have been taught to put the number in their head and count back on their fingers (or using the pictures). They are really developing in their confidence, but we will continue this into early next week.
English this week has been focused on recounts once again, with them focusing on the story 'Meerkat Mail'. They seemed to have enjoyed this book, and have created some good pieces of writing from this. We are trying to now focus on the handwriting within lessons, and using the lines correctly.
This week we have begun our new topic, which is Science, in particular Animals Including Humans. So far the children have looked at their senses.
PSHE this week was focused on rules, and the children came up with some good rules for the classroom.
We are now going to be holding small spelling 'tests' in class so that we can see where any gaps are, and so that the children can reinforce their phonics skills.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.
From the Year 1 team
