We hope you all had a lovely half term break! It has been a good week with the children settling back in well, they have shown good listening skills and been polite and helpful which has been great to see. We now have a new member of the class Miss James, and she will be a classroom assistant helping the children with their work in the mornings.
This week has been slightly different to normal weeks, as we have been completing assessments with the children in reading, grammar, spelling and maths. The children have been going into the hall in small groups with either Miss James or Mrs Bridge to slowly work through the tests, with questions being read to them where possible to help them. The children have coped well with this and we are very proud of them, as it can seem daunting, but we have told them it is a chance for them to show off what they can do. This has therefore taken up most of the morning lessons, so we will catch up on those next week.
The afternoons have been looking at science once again with them looking at materials and working out what items are made of, they seem to enjoy science, which is good to see. Alongside this, we have looked at areas such as Guy Fawkes and bonfire night. The children went on to create some of their own designs of rockets, which all looked amazing! The children have been continuing to do extra reading and phonics activities in the afternoons too which is helping to boost them in confidence.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend! See you next week.
From the Year 1 team.
