Another busy and rather warm week...
Hope you are all well. We have had a busy week back, with lots of great learning! Although at times it has been tricky for the children with the warm temperatures, they have kept going.
Maths this week has been focusing on recognising numbers to 50 and using good place value skills. The children have absolutely excelled with this! English this week has started off a new topic of writing, with the children looking at information leaflets and the writing on these. The children have been working towards creating their own 'Ice planet theme park', they have had lots of great ideas and have enjoyed coming up with different rides and making their writing interesting. During these lessons, we looked at a clip of 'Blue Planet', the children loved it and were amazed by all the different creatures.
We are still continuing with our big push for reading at home in terms of the superstar readers, and I am pleased to say year 1 had the most star readers this week in the whole school! We had 24 children read a minimum of 5 times! A big well done! Please continue to push this as it is so vital.
Also coming up in our afternoon sessions we will be moving on to Design and Technology soon. For this to happen, we are needing some items from home please. In particular, we need: kitchen roll tubes, shoe boxes or boxes of similar size, other cardboard shapes and plastic, and clean yoghurt pots. Also, if any families have any spare bird feed that would be great. Please bring anything you can in, starting from next week.
Can we also please ask that you continue to practise the children's phonics sounds with them as much as you can, these are found in their homework books.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend
From the Year 1 team
