C of E Primary School

A gymtastic week in Year 2.

In this section...

Year 2 gym team tastes success at interschool's competition.

How can it already be the end of the first week back?

They say 'time flies when you're having fun' and this week has flown by!

The children in the photo were selected by Donald Carr, our gym teacher, to represent Homefield in the Keysteps gym competition.  Out of the six schools they came an impressive 2nd place which means they, along with winners Rollesby, go through to represent East Norfolk in the Norfolk finals next Friday. Good luck guys!

Thank you for all the wonderful homework that came in last half term.  You have all been getting very creative; brilliant.  See the attachment below for a selection of homework.

During maths this week the children have been learning about 3D shapes including making patterns, nets of shapes and properties of shapes.  What shapes can you find in your house?  Why not send your child on a shape hunt and see what they can discover. Next week we start a block on fractions so be sure to include the language of fractions in discussions at home wherever possible.  For example if you are eating a cake or a pizza (shapes other than circles also apply!) why not say half for me, half for you, etc.

In literacy we have read Handa's Surprise which ties in with our African topic (and lots of other things).  The children will be fruit-tasting this week (fruits from the book) and we will be encouraging them to use their descriptive writing.  They will also be expected to know and use the four different sentence types which are questions, commands, statements and exclamations. See if they know what some of them are already.

Remember that it is our African Day on Tuesday.  We're looking forward to seeing your brightly coloured costumes and having a day of cultural wonder.

Just a quick reminder that children need to hand in their reading diaries everytime an adult hears them read at home so they can earn house points for their team. A few children (despite regular reminders) are forgetting to hand them in.

Our secret Phrase for this week is 'George's Marvellous Medicine'.

Have a great weekend

Miss Studley and the Year 2 team.
