C of E Primary School

A week to try something new

In this section...

Taekwondo arrives in Year 2.

Firstly, thank you to all the children that came in enthusiastically on Monday to tell me that they had been tracking the London Marathon.  I did get a personal best time of 3 hours and 39 minutes.  I showed the children my medal to inspire them to follow their dreams.  I was moving around school quite slowly most of this week and certainly did not participate in the taekwondo taster session on Wednesday! The children seemed to really enjoy this opportunity to try something different.  Some parents have expressed an interest in their children taking it up as an after school club. We are currently looking into the viability of holding a club here at Homefield so watch this space for more details.

Sadly we said goodbye to Miss Kennedy today.  She made all of the children a personalised bookmark with some words to describe each child's personality which was a very kind gesture; thank you and good luck at your next school Miss Kennedy.

We have launched into planning and writing the first draft of our lighthouse adventure stories.  Most of the children seem to be enjoying this.  I am trying to encourage them to use their imaginations a little more to make their stories more exciting.  We will get there.

We have had a big push on the Rainbow words this week.  More children are learning them at home thank you.  Congratulations to Darci, Ila, Sophia, Riley, Scott, Sienna and Gracie who have all now advanced to the cloud words.

In maths we finished off our time work with some resoning and problem-solving. Keep asking them to tell you the time because it will keep their learning fresh. We have been doing some mental arithmetic revision and some calculations revision too to make sure they are ready for their tests later in May. Our next unit will be measures focussing on capacity.  You could start getting them ready by reading drink cartons etc to see how many millilitres they hold. Do they know how much a litre is? Show them at home and practise reading scales.

Have a great long weekend.  Our secret word links to our literacy and topic. It is 'Lighthouse' because many children could not spell it.
