Facing our fears collectively

In this section...

Year 2 welcomes parents in for a collective worship service.

It has been another hot week in school.  Thank you for providing your child with a water bottle.  Rest assured that the children are refilling their bottle during the day, sometimes more than once. Remember suncream and hats too.

Thankyou to all the parents that came to our assembly on the theme of having the courage to face our fears. I am sure you will agree that the children certainly managed to overcome any nerves and delivered an excellent act of worship. I was especially impressed at the planning stage at how many children contributed ideas.  Particular thanks to Jeb, who suggested our Bible story and Luke who came up with some good ideas to use as props. It was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic and working together on a common task.

We have been doing poetry in literacy this week.  We have enjoyed sharing poetry together.  Perhaps you have a poetry book at home that you could continue to read to your child? They have loved listening to poems and this of course helps them to develop their own ideas and extend their vocabulary.  The children are into a good routine of changing their library books every Friday.  Please ensure your child has their book with them to change. We have also moved a few children up to the next reading stage today so check that out when you read with your child this weekend.  They are so excited when they know they have moved up and I know they'll be excited to share the news at home too.

We have finally seen two boys move onto pen this week.  We held two 'pen ceremonies'; one for Sam and one for Luke.  Congratulations to you both.

Maths has been very enjoyable.  We have continued on with the theme of measures but have had lots of problems to solve and statements to reason about.  It has been good to see the children enjoy this challenge.

Next week is a maths challenge week. Ask them about it on Monday.

We will be going to Time and Tide on Tuesday afternoon to have a look at the Titanic exhibition and take part in a workshop. The children should come to school in their normal uniform with no change to the routine apart from having a slightly earlier lunch before we leave school.

This week's secret word is 'Brave'.  Have an enjoyable weekend, from Miss Studley and the Year 2 team.
