It's our first week back after half term and we cannot be more delighted with the attitude to learning that the children have come back to school with.
This week across the school we have had a themed RE week and all classes have been looking at aspects of Incarnation - God in the flesh, as Jesus.
In Year 2 we have looked at the word 'rescue' as the name Jesus means 'to rescue'. We started with a trailer of a Disney film which was new to many and then thought about what it means to be rescued and the types of people who might do this - both professions and characteristics.
We then looked at lots of different superheroes, showing that many were seemingly ordinary people with super-human skills (e.g. Clark Kent and Superman). The children were fantastic in remembering lots of the super-human things Jesus did, or miracles as we call them, and drew some lovely illustrations. We also took the opportunity to sing one of school hymns in class (For God so loved the world...) - why not see if they can sing it to you.
We are a fortunate class this half term, having Mr Carr teaching us gymnastics. This will be on Tuesday mornings with the exception of next week when it will be Wednesday (8th) as the photographer is with us on Tuesday.
We had 40% Superstar Readers this week - well done to all 12 children who read at least 5 times since we broke up. We are really hoping to improve this and get nearer to the 80% which will earn us extra playtime. That means we need at least 24 children with five reading signatures over the week. Come on Year 2, we can do it.
I hope you all have a safe and exciting Bonfire weekend. The secret word for next week is 'gunpowder' - remember to tell me in class for extra teampoints.
