Second week back and settling in well...
Hope you are having a good week. We have had a brilliant second week settling into year 2, with lots of great learning.
Maths this week has been focused on place value with the children completing different activities using numbers 1-100. The children have been comparing numbers using the < and > symbols (greater than and less than), and have been using the part whole model to understand the place value of different numbers. The children have completed this brilliantly, with their level of understanding of numbers up to 100 being exactly where it needs to be.
English this week has been based on the lovely book ‘Little Red Reading Hood’. The children have really enjoyed this beautiful story and have already begun to write some interesting sentences. It is great to see how they have just carried on where they left off in year 1, and now we can already start to push them further.
Topic this week is ‘The Great Fire of London’, the children have enjoyed learning about life back in 1666, and the causes of the great fire. They have really grasped many aspects of this history topic, and have created some great work already in response.
We are continuing to push for superstar readers each week, so please continue to help/monitor your child reading at least 5 times a week (although if possible each day/night).
We will also be sending spellings home each week as part of a push on spellings in year 2, if the children can please go over these each week at home. Homework will also be starting to go out soon.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.
From the year 2 team.
