A great week...

Hello everyone,

Hope you’ve had a great week so far, I know we certainly have in year 2. The children have worked hard this week, and have enjoyed the different areas of learning.

English this week has been once again carrying on with the story ‘Little Red Reading Hood’, which the children have loved, and this is the final week. At the beginning of the week, they all planned their own stories using their own characters and setting. By the end of the week the children had written their own story, with most of them writing at least a page in their books! We are so proud of how hard they worked on their stories, and we hope this continues into new areas within our English.

Maths this week has been a mixture of things, but all within the new topic of addition and subtraction. The children have shown good levels of understanding, and have been applying their place value skills to their new calculations. We have looked at balance equations, the inverse operation and related facts this week, so the children have been using lots of different techniques.

Topic this week has now moved onto Science, with us looking at the area of Materials. The children have learnt about some materials in everyday objects around them. They have also looked in detail at recycling, where we have looked into what we can recycle and most importantly why we must recycle. It has been lovely to see the children really engage in this and take great care in looking after our animals and planet.

We are continuing to push for superstar readers each week, so please continue to help/monitor your child reading at least 5 times a week (although if possible each day/night).

We will also be continuing to send spellings home each week as part of a push on spellings in year 2, if the children can please go over these each week at home.

From the Year 2 team.
