Good afternoon everyone,

We hope you all had a lovely half-term break. Hope you are having a good week. We have had a brilliant week back, in year 2, with lots of great learning.

Maths this week has been based on recapping subtraction and addition using the column method. This was to make sure the children are secure in this method before moving on. The end of the week was based on money. The children seem to have a good level of understanding when it comes to different coins and pick up the names and amounts for them. If you can do any more practise at home that would be great.

English this week has moved onto a new style of writing with the children focusing on instruction writing. The main text is ‘How to make a bird feeder’, which is great as the children made bird feeders last year in DT, so they have some background knowledge in this. They have been looking into what is safe to feed birds and what ingredients we would need.

Topic this week has been music, with the children learning to count, dance and sing along to a beat/pulse. All the music this half-term is based around the song ‘Hands, Feet and Heart’, which the children have already learnt off by heart and seem to enjoy. They have also been using chimes to try and play along with the song.

Please keep trying to help your child read each night, it is starting to make a real difference!

Have a nice weekend.

From the Year 2 team
