Summer Term 1

It has been another busy half term in Year 3 and it is hard to believe that we only have one half term left of Year 3!

In English this half term we have been writing to inform. We have written newspaper articles about a volcanic eruption and explanation texts explaining how an ice cream machine works. Ask your children about the secrets of how lots of household machines actually work!

In maths we have finished our work on fractions and we are now moving on to time. Over the half term it would be really good for you to practice telling the time to five minute intervals. There is a great interactive clock on www.ictgames.co.uk

Recently, I have introduced a class library with a range of lengthier and engaging texts for the children to read. This has proven really popular and I have seen children really enjoying reading for pleasure.

If children want to practice their spellings over the half term holidays go on to www.spellingframe.co.uk. This is an excellent resource and one that the children enjoy using.

After half term we start our Stone Age to Iron Age topic. This will be launched with a Stone Age Day on Tuesday 4th June. We are fortunate to have visitor from portals to the past and children can come in Stone Age fancy dress if they wish. We will be using How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth and Stone Age Boy to inspire instruction and biography writing next half term.

I hope you have a wonderful break and that the sun continues to shine!

Miss Clark :)
