Rap Rockstars

Well I think it is safe to say one of the highlights of this week was becoming a rap rock star. To inspire our writing we listened to a rap about the rock cycle and invented our own rocks and thought about how they are formed. We are really enjoying our text The Street Beneath my Feet to inspire our information text writing.

In Maths we have been working really hard to becoming fluent in our multiplication and division skills. This week's homework will help to support these skills further. As will many of the games on Hit the Button. Next week we are moving onto fractions.

We were fascinated in our RE lesson today to learn about Sikhism. We learnt about Dastar Bandi and Taking Amrit which are two very important commitment ceremonies for Sikhs. We also learnt about a very important commitment ceremony for Jewish boys and girls called Bat Mitzvah and Bar Mitzvah.

We had our first Gymnastics session with Mr Carr on Monday. We have two more sessions together. In our PE lessons with Miss Clark we are doing a sequence of lessons about attacking and defending.

Our new initiative to encourage regular reading was discussed briefly before the Easter holidays. Each class has different coloured paper strips. Every time you read five times in a week you get to add a strip to our paper chain.

An additional initiative that Year 3 will be doing is Reading Miles. Every read will count as a mile and we are challenging ourselves to see how far we can travel. We are fortunate enough to have lots of new books in class for the children to enjoy both in school and at home.

When reading at home please sign your child's reading record. Anything that your child reads can be recorded and will count as a read. If you have read the blog you can even put that in as a read.

Homework challenges will be sent out on a Friday and are due back the following Friday. The challenges will revisit some of the learning previously taken place in school and will be used to develop confidence. Children may also have small spelling lists to practise and we aim to check these weekly in school.

You have worked so hard this week Year 3. We are very proud. Have a wonderful weekend.
