Merry Christmas Everyone!

In this section...

Short but sweet end to the term.

It has been a lovely end to the term. We have been mixing a sense of what we have enjoyed about the Autumn Term and what we are preparing for in the Spring Term.

We will have some time to finish multiplication and division in maths in the new year.  We will be learning to write a speech in English.  If your child wants to get ahead we will be reading the book 'The Accidental Prime Minister' by Tom McLaughlin in our lessons.

Our first topic will be science.  We will be learning about the Physical processes of Electricity and Sound during the first 3 weeks back.  Your child has a double-sided Knowledge Organiser in their bags.

In PE we will be having Mr Carr for 6 consecutive gymnastics sessions.  He will then develop their skills further for those of you who have signed up to the after school gymnastics club. At the time of writing this there are three places still available for this club.  If you are interested see me or pop into the school office.

Outdoor games will be on a Wednesday but it is recommended to bring PE kits in on a Monday and leave them at school all week as sometimes PE days have to be swapped. It has been lovely having so many of the children expressing an interest in joining a sports club after school.  Look out for the clubs booklet coming out in the first week back.  There are spaces in the girls football club (Mondays) and boys football on Wednesdays. After the February half term there will be a Kurling club for Y3/4 on a Thursday evening.

A few blogs ago I mentioned that there were quite a few children that did not know their address and telephone number. We have checked again this week.  It is a slightly better picture.  Your child has a slip of paper in their reading diary that shows their attempt at writing their address so please check and advise accordingly.

It was lovely to review the term's reading efforts. Merits were awarded to children who have read every week, to those who have written a book review and for completing optional homework.  We only have 2 years to prepare them for high school where the demand on their organisational skills and time to complete homework etc increases dramatically.  We need to start preparing them now so it is not such a shock as they progress through school.

I would like to say a huge thank you for the cards and gifts that I have received.  We really do not expect anything.  I was very touched to receive a gift to pass on to my new dog - Flopsy- who is currently travelling here from Greece! I am sure she will enjoy the treats, especially the doggy beer!

Following the success of the autumn photograph competition, I would love to invite you to take a photo that represents the beautiful season of winter.  Will we be lucky enough to get any of the white stuff this year.......?  We will keep the competition open until the 13th January to give us more of a window of opportunity.

I wish you all the happiest of Christmas times. The secret word is 'celebration'.

Merry Christmas to you all,

From Miss Studley and Miss T.
