Musical theatre enrichment was a big hit
Thank you to Mercedes from Go Geronimo who delivered our latest enrichment day. All pupils from YR up to Y6 had a taster lesson on expressing themselves through dance, specifically the musical Matilda. Mercedes was very engaging and the pupils responded very positiviely. I have enquired whether an after school club will be possible. I will keep you informed.
Thank you if you have brought a photo in for the Winter photography competition. It's hard as we have had a relatively mild winter so far. No snow and hardly any frost. Bring any remaining entries in on Monday.
Many congratulations to our Y4 gymnastics squad who triumphed at the inter-school competition today! They came equal first with Hillside! Well done! See Mr Young's blog for more details.
In English we have started reading playscripts to learn how to become a play writer ourselves. Any exposure to plays would give your child a big boost for their learning in class. Ask them about it.
In maths we have been learning how to multiply efficiently. That means we have looked at lots of different methods and are choosing the one we find easiest for us. Today for example, we looked at near multiples of 10. If you have a calculation such as 39x6. It can be changed to 40x6. Then subtract one lot of 6 at the end. The children know how to do it. The daily 10 in 10 is working really well at the moment. Remember that your child has their sheet in their bag daily. Go through them. The improvements are very rewarding to see. Alfie has excelled this week with his hand up almost constantly, but he is not the only one.
There are always Spag.com activities to practise English and TT Rockstars to boost the multiplication tables.
In Geography we have been building on our Europe unit to look at land use in the UK. Next week we will be comparing the UK to another country in Europe.
Lots of new boats have been launched in class this week. Well done to Ethan who is the new captain of the art boat, Emelia science, Elsie PE and Archie the blog captain.
Have a great weekend. The secret word is 'musical'.
