Reading

The love of reading is key to success.

According to research completed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on education and reading and their role of promoting social mobility, reading for pleasure is a strong indicator of future success of a child.

At Homefield, as well as supporting children in their reading journey, we endeavour to establish a Reading for Pleasure culture, and it is hoped that this will be mirrored in the home so that our children develop into lifelong readers.

Alongside lessons in decoding, developing fluency, and expanding our vocabulary and background knowledge and therefore comprehension, we also take time daily to read aloud our current class book for the enjoyment and love of it.
